After a four-year break from using the name, Chet Faker is officially back with “Low.” The track sees the Australian singer exploring the same type of lo-fi electro-soul that made hits like “Gold” so great. And with a groove that’s simultaneously fresh and timeless, it’s hard not to fall in love with this track. “Low” is Rev. Keith’s DJ Pick of the Week!
Back in 2016, Faker announced his “evolution” as an artist, choosing to release under his given name Nick Murphy. As Murphy, he dropped a series of projects, including two studio albums and four EPs. Cut to 2020, and he’s evolved yet again, reviving the Chet Faker moniker for his next era.
The switch comes hot on the heels of his recent signing to BMG Australia and New Zealand, and all signs point to a more complete project (think album or EP) coming in the near future. He even dropped a follow-up single already in the form of the bouncy “Get High.”
“Low” itself, sonically, is textbook Chet Faker. His vocals seem to ebb and flow in and out of focus as he ruminates on finding hope even at your lowest:
It’s a welcome return for Faker, and we couldn’t be more excited to see what this next era has in store for him. Check out the music video for “Low” below!
