Jayson’s DJ pick of the week!
Today’s DJ pick comes from alt-folk-rocker, Aaron Lee Tasjan and his newest single “Up All Night”. This single is a perfect mesh of progressive pop and rock that sounds like Electric Light Orchestra, and Tom Petty had a lovechild. “Up All Night” is the first teaser single from Tasjan’s fourth studio album, Tasjan! Tasjan! Tasjan!, which is set to release on February 5th via New West Records. Tasjan’s prior albums like the 2016 Silver Tears and 2018, Karma for Cheap sound heavily country inspired. “Up All Night” teases a new wave sound from Tasjan, a pop-inspired sound we haven’t quite heard from him before.
“Up All Night’ is half party anthem, half cautionary tale. It’s inspired by the times I’ve wondered if I need to get help with my drinking and what it meant that I was worrying about things in the first place?” Tasjan said in a press release. “The three things that worry me most in my life are probably my health, being alone, and money. Each of those three daily battles became a verse in this song. The first verse explores my financial plan for the foreseeable future, my real-life love life plays out a bit in the second, while the third verse is an homage to the years-long stomach problems I’ve tried to get diagnosed with that everyone says is anxiety. … For me, this song says that there’s no escaping being alive. Worrying is part of life just like having a good time or even too good of a time.”
This single tackles anxiety head-on and is a beautiful reminder that no matter how overwhelming things are, they will eventually pass. His upcoming album, Tasjan! Tasjan! Tasjan!, will feature many songs centered around struggling with mental health and the ups and downs from this turbulent year.
