Iconic singer-songwriter Paul Weller teamed up with his daughter Leah to write “Shades of Blue.” The track comes from Weller’s upcoming Fat Pop (Volume 1), set to drop May 14. Just like the rest of that record, this song came about during the first COVID-19 lockdown. But don’t worry about this being a “COVID song;” it’s textbook Weller, contemplative and clever. “Shades of Blue” is Casey’s DJ Pick of the Week!

Weller has consistently been a mainstay in the UK rock scene for around 45 years now. Initially, he was an integral part of the punk scene, fronting punk outfit The Jam. Since then, his musical journey has taken a variety of forms, ranging from blue-eyed-soul outfit The Style Council to his eventual solo career. And even then, Weller was always hard to pin down, dabbling in jazz, funk, and Britpop before becoming the singer-songwriter we know today. He’s cultivated a uniquely thoughtful sound, one that fits right in alongside the likes of Wilco but still stands out. Check out “Shades of Blue” for yourself below!
