Time for Jayson’s DJ pick of the week. It’s new music from Sara Watkins: “Move Me” from her album Young In All The Wrong Ways, available July 1. Check it out and let us know what you think using #L100DJpicks and comment below.
Finding her footing in the music industry as a vocalist and violinist for famed, unconventional and modern bluegrass band, Nickel Creek, Sara Watkins has stayed busy since she was nine years old. Nickel Creek assembled in 1989, made up of preteen prodigies, Chris Thile (mandolin), Sean Watkins (guitar player and Sara’s brother), and Sara turned the once niche following of folk fans into a wide and accessible community. Watkins has released two solo albums and collaborated on multiple folk music projects since Nickel Creek’s split in 2006, including “I’m With Her” (featuring Sarah Jarosz and Aoife O’Donovan) and “Watkins Family Hour” with her brother.
Currently touring, Watkins will be in her home state of California on the release date of Young In All The Wrong Ways. She won’t be returning to the Southeast until the fall, with an Atlanta show at the City Winery on Sept. 24, and an Asheville, North Carolina show on Sept. 25. Listen to her single “Move Me,” from the new record and let us know what you think.
