The title track of his upcoming album, “Doctrine of Love” has a significant jazz feel. With an opening of trumpets and brushes/rods on the drums, Jalen’s vocals are like honey throughout the song. This week, Dan chose “Push My Luck” by Cold War Kids for his DJ Pick of the Week! Formed in 2004, Cold War Kids has gone through multiple eras and shifts over the years. However, their sound has been uniquely and distinctly theirs. “Push My Luck” was released in mid Feburary, and was sent out into the world with a sibling titled, “All I Ever Need.” Opening with beachy guitar and suspenseful vocals, “Push My Luck” features light, meaningful lyrics that carry throughout the song. Stephanie: “Strangers” by Black Country, New Road
“Strangers” by Black Country, New Road is Stephanie’s DJ Pick this week! This song is from the HELP (2) album, which is a collaborative album from War Child Records. This album follows the 1995 HELP album, which was recorded in a single day in September and has been described as “the best charity album ever made.” The song “Strangers” is the third track on the album and stands out lyrically and instrumentally. The vocals of Black Country, New Road flow throughout the song, and echo around the idea of chasing dreams and living life while you’re young. Find their song on the HELP (2) album, with all proceeds going to support War Child UK.

Casey: “Whip-Poor-Will” by Erin Rae
This week, “Whip-Poor-Will” by Erin Rae is Casey’s DJ Pick of the Week. This cover was released on March 5th and has since taken flight on its own. Originally performed by Jason Molina, Erin Rae adds her own Nashville essence to the song. With a light guitar echoing throughout, the rendition wraps together who Erin is as an artist as her voice wraps around the listener. “Whip-Poor-Will” will also be featured on the original motion picture soundtrack in Lovers, a film by Taylor McFadden. “Whip-Poor-Will” is out everywhere now, so give it a listen! Keith’s Pick of the Week is “Riptides” by Death Cab for Cutie, a band formed in Washington in the late ‘90s. Throughout their long and successful career, the band has continued to evolve their sound while staying true to who they are. Their album, “I Built You a Tower,” will be their 11th studio album, a feat not many get to reach. “Riptides” is the first single from this album, and it talks about how turbulent life is and how paralyzing the world can feel at times. With a kickin’ bass line, the lyrics take over as you listen and transport you into another world. Their new album, “I Built You a Tower,” is out on June 5th, so presave/preorder now!
