Jayson’s Pick: “Pretty Face” by Girl Tones
Jayson’s DJ pick of the week is “Pretty Face” by Girl Tones. Girl Tones are a rock duo consisting of sisters Kenzie and Laila Crowe from Bowling Green, Kentucky. Their new single, “Pretty Face,” is the lead single of their upcoming debut album Precious. The album was produced by Brad Shultz of Cage the Elephant. It’s about people trying to hide their true selves to be accepted and fit in with other shown in the lyrics, “polish up the broken crumb, a façade you can’t sustain.” The single combines elements of both punk rock and grunge. Some of the biggest influences behind their music include The White Stripes and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Dan’s Pick DJ Pick: “Marianne” by Fontaines D.C.
Dan’s DJ Pick of the week is “Marianne” by Fontaines D.C. Fontaines D.C. The Irish band formed in 2014 in Dublin and have become one of the most popular rock bands in 2024 following the release of their album Romance. Their new single, “Marianne” is the lead single released of their upcoming studio album, Dopamine Chamber. Lyrically, the song is about escapism and from the modern world. Lyrics like “you should come and stay here, you can follow my lead, I can help you disappear” portray this theme. The song explores a variety of genres, including darkwave, synthpop, and gothic rock. Their next two performances will be at the Shaky Knees Festival on September 18th in Atlanta, and the Sea.Hear.Now Festival on September 20th in Asbury Park, New Jersey!

Stephanies DJ Pick: “The Art of Letting Go” by Ambré
Stephanie’s DJ Pick of the week is “The Art of Letting Go” by Ambré. She is an R&B artist from New Orleans, and in 2019, notably co-wrote two songs on H.E.R.’s self-titled Grammy winning album. The song “The Art of Letting Go” is a track on her recent debuted album, Peyote. The single is about a failing relationship between two people due to bad communication and timing, and the choice to let go of it. She sings, “‘Cause, I, I can’t fight the wind, but it’s all I do these days…” and “we’re just two lonely lovebirds, flying high but away from each other.”

Casey’s DJ Pick: “Landy Boy” by The River Indigo
Last but not least, Casey’s DJ pick is “Landy Boy” by The River Indigo. The River Indigo formed in Nashville in 2012, and consists of husband and wife Seth and Jenna Herlich. The song “Landy Boy” is the lead single released for their upcoming album, which title has yet to be announced. The song lyrically is a confrontation from one partner to the other, because their relationship is fraught with communication issues and insincerity. They sing, “baby, I don’t wanna talk anymore, but it’s lazy that you didn’t show up at my door” showcasing the disconnect and lack of care.
