Hailing from Wasilla, Alaska, and now based in Portland, Portugal. The Man has built a career on reinvention. The band consists of John Gourley, Zach Carothers, Kyle O’Quin, Jason Sechrist, Eric Howk, and Zoe Manville. The group broke through with their Grammy-winning hit “Feel It Still” in 2017 and have since remained committed to evolving their sound. That refusal to stay within one lane became even more evident with the release of the critically acclaimed album Chris Black Changed My Life, which marked yet another shift in the band’s creative direction. Produced by Jeff Bhasker, “Silver Spoons (ft. Lucius)” is full of unexpected textures and genre-blurring collaborations.
“Silver Spoons (ft. Lucius)” is featured on their latest release, uLu Selects Vol #2, pulling back the curtain even further. Specifically, across the four raw and restless tracks, Portugal. The Man fully embraces chaos, discomfort, and vulnerability. As always, the band’s psychedelic roots provide its anchor, while Lucius’s signature harmonies give it lift. On this particular track, it leans into groove and atmosphere; there’s a warm, vintage sheen to the production, yet it doesn’t feel stuck in the past.Lucius provides a dreamy counterbalance to Gourley’s vocals, giving the song a layered, slow-burn energy. The track allows for introspection and easy immersion, sneaking up on you and staying in your head for days.
