Royel Otis "Foam" - Steph's DJ Pick of the Week

Steph’s DJ Pick of the Week is “Foam” by Royel Otis!

Sydney-based indie-rock duo Royel Otis recently released their debut album PRATTS & PAIN, produced by Grammy-winning producer Dan Carey.

Royel Otis is comprised of vocalist Otis Pavlovic and guitarist and bassist Royel Maddell. The duo started releasing music in 2021 and gradually built a devoted fanbase.

Royel Otis’ cover of Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s “Murder on the Dance Floor” gained over 9 million views on TikTok, increasing the duo’s popularity. Royel Otis sold out most of its upcoming Australian and North American tours, hinting at a pivotal year for the duo.

“Foam” is a highlight off PRATTS & PAIN. A smooth, rhythmic bassline opens the track and carries it to the end. Tight drumbeats and dreamy electric guitar strums enhance the track’s atmosphere. Pavlovic’s nonchalant, droning vocal delivery interestingly adds a melancholic element to the track.

“Foam” describes someone who needs to wash their mouth out with soap. The choruses are memorable and easy to sing along to. In them, Pavlovic sings “Slow down and keep my name out your mouth” against a backdrop of ethereal, groovy instrumentation.

You won’t want to miss out on hearing “Foam” and the rest of PRATTS & PAIN.
