Casey’s DJ pick of the week is Sturgill Simpson’s “When It Comes To You.” The song was released as part of a tribute album to country music legend, John Anderson. Titled “Something Borrowed, Something New: A Tribute to John Anderson,” the album features a range of artists including Tyler Childers, Luke Combs, and John Prine covering some of his greatest hits.

“When It Comes To You” seeks relief from pain and sorrow caused by the conditions of the singer’s current relationship. Anderson writes, “If we can’t get along / We ought to be apart.” Simpson does the song well beyond justice, pulling from his strong roots in blues and country, paired with the ability to communicate emotion through his vocals.

Simpson is a Kentucky native and has 6 studio albums. He remains consistent, taking his audience on a journey through his songwriting. Without sticking to just any one style or genre, Simpson is experimental and not afraid to test limits.
