Indie rock band Susto recently released their newest single, “Summertime,” which has earned the spot as Melissa’s DJ Pick of the Week. “Summertime” comes off their newest album “Time in the Sun” and will be available next month. The single reminisces on how summer with the right person can make one feel. With the changes of the season, it’s a reminder of how great that time in your life was.

Susto was started by Justin Osborne after he spent some time reflecting on what music meant to him. After years of doing everything himself music-wise, Osborne felt burnt out and was ready to leave the music scene for good. After playing a farewell show with his then band, he decided to move to Havana for six months. Being surrounded by the Cuban culture and the musicians there, he realized he wasn’t ready to leave it all behind. Ready to get back to it, he came back to the States and recorded Susto’s first album.

During the pandemic, Osborne spent that time reflecting on what he wanted this album to be. In an interview with Glide Magazine, Osborne discussed how his family inspired him to create an album for them.

I’ve really wanted to make one of these albums of songs to sing to my daughter, and at the same time reflecting on my responsibilities as a parent to impart knowledge to my child.

While he doesn’t want the songs to tell her how she should live life, he prefers it be a reminder to her of how he was and what he experienced. “Summertime” is the perfect song to express how seasons of your life come and go, but the memories will always stick with you. It’s a melodic song that really makes any listener reminisce on those times.

Susto’s newest album featuring the single “Summertime” is available on October 29. Check out the Tweet below for a look at the album art and the album on vinyl:
