Nashville favorites The Criticals are back with a brand new single, “Izzy.” The band’s founding members Parker Forbes and Cole Shugart continue to deliver a raw, youthful rock sound that has made The Criticals a staple of the indie scene in Nashville. With devoted fans all across the country, The Criticals are gearing up for more shows and new releases to follow up their 2020 Album Sour Grapes. “Izzy” is Casey’s DJ pick of the week!
Musically, “Izzy” features steady, strummed guitar over a mid-tempo beat. The song’s overall arrangement centers around a laid-back groove and draws inspiration from the band’s retro influences. Produced and performed by Forbes and Shugart, “Izzy” was written by Nashville-based songwriter Reeve Powers. Upon hearing Powers play “Izzy” for the first time, Forbes and Shugart stated that they “immediately knew we wanted to record it.” The song is made complete with Forbes’ distinct vocals and impassioned delivery of the song’s vivid lyrics.
The Criticals will be playing back-to-back shows at Exit/In in Nashville on October 1st and 2nd, so snag some tickets here while they’re still available. The band also recently teased on Instagram that they have another single, “Absinthe,” coming out this Friday, September 17th.
