Brandy Zdan is Lightning 100’s Local Artist of the Week! Zdan recently released a new single titled “The Worst Thing,” which is the third single she has released in anticipation of her upcoming album Falcon. “The Worst Thing” is accompanied by a music video that was directed by Taylor McFadden and co-produced by McFadden and Zdan.

Zdan’s latest single “The Worst Thing” begins with haunting, a cappella vocal harmonies. These vocals deliver the song’s refrain, which contains the lyrics “Beauty or pain it does not matter / It can be both, somehow / That’s how we got here.” The opening refrain is followed by a rock-centric arrangement of drums, bass, and guitar that collectively set the tone for the rest of the song. Zdan’s lead vocal is the next element to enter the arrangement, with her voice weaving and cracking as she emotes the song’s lyrics. Lyrically, the song touches on the intense struggles that women face and how they are still expected to keep silent about their pain.

Zdan shared on her website that her upcoming album, Falcon, is “my story of the last two years. A story of miscarriage, loss, grief, pregnancy, motherhood, trauma, isolation, depression, hope, and love. I gave birth in a pandemic, became a mother in isolation, pressed pause on my career, lost my livelihood, battled postpartum depression, and faced some of the darkest moments of life. Grand plans of big producers and fancy studios fell away, and I had to figure out a way of telling my story on my own.” Zdan self-produced and engineered the album, which she sites as “her most proud accomplishment to date.”

Zdan’s album Falcon will be released on October 29th. Pre-save the album here, and check out “The Worst Thing” on YouTube below:
