Lightning 100 is stoked to announce “Multi Ultra” and their song “No Surprise” as our local artist of the week!
Multi Ultra is back with their new single “No Surprise.” It’s a passionate track about feeling a loss of power amid the world’s noise. The 4-piece alternative-rock band was first formed between singer Derrick Wesley and guitarist Nolan Brown back in 2021. The duo added Chrystian Kaplan on drums and Sam Bellavance on bass to create Multi Ultra. These guys are familiar faces here at Lightning 100! The group took home the trophy at Lightning 100’s local talent search competition, Music City Mayhem, back in 2023. We are excited to see them releasing new material and getting back out on the road. Multi Ultra is kicking off their Spring 2026 tour on May 1st here in Nashville at Cannery Hall!
In “No Surprise,” Multi Ultra teams up again with producer Tim Craven to create an addictive indie rock track. A warm bass guitar bounces around the fretboard as the guitars repeat memorable riffs. The song’s intensity ebbs and flows to build momentum and create high-energy moments. This song addresses the all-too-familiar yet challenging experience of being a person with a smartphone in today’s world. In the second verse, Wesley confesses, “I read the news and felt a shudder, another, The past let the records show, They keep the power as we suffer, we’re smothered, Roll with the punches thrown.” Music is a powerful tool for change, and Multi Ultra are loud and proud about the change they hope to see. In promotion for the song, the band tells their Facebook followers, “When life feels heavy, remember you’re not alone.” “No Surprises” reminds listeners that there is power in community and shared experience!
