Dave Barnes does not miss in his song “The Lord Ain’t Let Me Down Lately,” with its groovy, laid-back vibe. Both easy going and hopeful, positivity radiates from Barnes’ vocals. The track appears alongside “June” featuring Suzy Jones from his 2021 EP June. Like “The Lord Ain’t Let Me Down Lately,” “June” is a calm, summer anthem about love. Smooth and soulful, the two songs showcase Barnes’ upbeat nature and passion for music. Lightning 100 is beyond thrilled to have Dave Barnes as our Local Artist of the Week!

As a jack of all trades, Barnes enjoys entertaining his fans. From taking on the character “Brother Pastor Phil” on his Instagram posts to his Dadville podcast show, Barnes embraces the silly side of life. The son of a pastor, Barnes began his music career at Middle Tennessee State University. There he learned to play guitar and performed on campus. He went on to release his own music, which found its way to the Christian music charts. Having Christian elements mixed with pop and soul, Barnes’ music appeals to many.

Barnes gives insight into being a christian artist when he said, “and I’ll say this about myself, I don’t have the gift/talent/calling of writing hymns and/or worship songs. I’ve tried. And they are terrible. I have friends that write them gorgeously. I don’t. But I do believe I have a gift to write songs about love, life, etc., and I hope and believe that isn’t a mistake.”

Dave Barnes is performing a show at Ryman Auditorium with Jordy Searcy this Saturday, July 24th at 8 p.m. Get your tickets here! Watch his vibrant visual video for “The Good Lord Ain’t Let Me Down Lately” below:
