Indie rock group Middle Kids sing with passion to convey deep emotions and feelings through their music and lyrics. Having released their second album Today We’re The Greatest, via Lucky Number back in March of 2021, the band from down under has gained lots of buzz for their sonically beautiful tracks. We are beyond thrilled to have Middle Kids spinning on the radio with “Stacking Chairs” as Stephanie’s DJ Pick of the Week!
Hannah Joy, Tim Fitz and Harry Day make up the Sydney, Australia trio. They released their first album Lost Friends back in 2018, and have been on numerous tours since with artists such as Cold War Kids and Bloc Party. Middle Kids enlisted the help of producer Lars Stalfors to help record Today We’re The Greatest in Los Angeles. Stalfors has worked with the likes of Soccer Mommy, St. Vincent, and Purity Ring. An album full of rawness and vulnerability, each track draws in deeper and deeper with each melody.
“Stacking Chairs” simultaneously blends modern rock with early 2000s, late 90’s indie elements. With a heavy emphasis on drums and electric guitar, the song flows along with its yearning lyrics. Lead singer Hannah Joy explains in a press release the meaning of the song. Deriving from her love life with fellow bandmate and husband Tim Fitz, the track embraces the mundane and exciting moments of everyday life.
“Going on the journey of marriage with Tim has been profound. It is very liberating having someone see you in your entirety and stay. Tim embodies that kind of ‘stacking chairs’ love – he’s not just about the party. He’s around afterwards when I’m tired and ugly and loves me in those moments.”
