Casey’s DJ pick of the week is “This Is Why” by Paramore. After five years of dormancy, the pop-punk trio is back with the rock anthem we’ve all been waiting for.
The band has been open about mental health awareness, current social issues, and advocating for human rights. The opening lyrics are a pretty direct response to unwanted input from those with misguided intentions. The song wishes for humanity to find it within themselves to be more kind, especially now, when good news is hard to come by.
The music reflects the message as lead singer, Hayley Williams, sings out her frustration. Drummer, Zac Farro, and guitarist, Taylor York accompany her with built-up anticipation for the chorus and the pinnacle release of emotions, a signature Paramore move.
“This Is Why” is the title track of their 6th studio album, set to be released on Feb. 10.
