Casey’s DJ pick of the week is “Green Tea” by Old Sea Brigade featuring Katie Pruitt!
In his recent release, Old Sea Brigade, know formally as Ben Cramer, is joined by local Nashville artist, Katie Pruitt. Cramer, originally from Atlanta, spent some time living here in Nashville as well, but has recently begun a new chapter with his family in Sweden. He released his first self-titled EP back in 2016, and has been paving his own way ever since. His voice can be described as soothing, raw, and emotional, documenting the trials of growing and learning throughout all of life’s stages. Pruitt, also originally from Atlanta, got her start back in 2017, where her soft country twang began to draw in a following. The pair wrote “Green Tea” a few years back on a 2 hour Zoom call. Both were feeling a bit skeptical about the Zoom write and were pleasantly surprised to leave with such a wonderful tune to show for it.
“Green Tea” is about finding stillness in reminiscing. It documents the beauty in processing the challenges and changes that ultimately help us to grow into who we are supposed to be. “You keep coming up / Though I try to keep you down / You keep coming up / Even though you’re not around.” The lyrics document the struggle to move forward after losing someone, holding onto the memories and shared experiences you had before they were gone. There is a calm nature to the track that reveals feelings of acceptance for the present paired with resonance for the past. Listen to “Green Tea” by Old Sea Brigade featuring Katie Pruitt below!
