“Road Gets Rough” by The Tell Alls (ft. Lilly Hiatt) is Casey’s DJ pick of the week!

The Tell Alls is a locally based act spearheaded by artist Ken Buono. Cutting his teeth as a founding member of different Philadelphia-based indie bands, Buono has opened for the likes of Joe Strummer, Lucinda Williams, Squeeze, and the Goo Goo Dolls. After the breakup of his band in Philadelphia, Buono found himself playing drums in New York City showcase rooms for the band Dragstrip Courage. Six months of shows followed, and the band was offered a demo deal by Madonna’s record label, Maverick Records. After much consideration, Maverick Records would ultimately pass on the band. Following this was a period of self-reflection for Buono. Buono and his Wife would sell their home and make the move to Nashville to further pursue his musical ambitions. Buono broke into Nashville’s local songwriting community, playing local writers’ nights and networking through co-writing opportunities. In 2020, it would come time to revive The Tell Alls with the release of singles “Won’t Come Down” and “Modern Day Mother Theresa”. “Road Gets Rough” marks the start of a 20-year follow-up to The Tell Alls debut.

Sonically, The Tell Alls give us a sound that puts you back in a bygone era of good ol’ classic rock, ala The Traveling Wilburys, but with lyrics for a new generation. Accompanied by legendary singer-songwriter John Hiatt’s daughter, Lilly, Buono conveys the feeling of what it means to find someone who’s truly a perfect fit.
