Dan’s DJ Pick of the Week is “Coast” by Gone Gone Beyond feat. Moontricks! Gone Gone Beyond is the creation of David Block, Danny Musengo, Kat Factor, and Mel Semé. Their sound is a fusion of traditional folk-americana with electronica, jazz, and world music with messages of hope and the beauty of a constantly changing world. Featured artist Moontricks is the Canadian electronic-bluegrass duo of Nathan Gurley and Sean Rodman. The two artist’s sounds make for a perfect union for this track.
“Coast” was released as a single in 2020, and later included on the group’s 2021 sophomore LP 2030. The song opens with soft yet tense harmonies sung in unison with banjo, then builds into a chill-wave verse and breezy chorus. The song’s message is something we can all relate to at some point in our lives; sometimes when times are tough, it’s important to realize things are out of our control and just coast on through it.
