Jayson’s Pick: “Lonely Girl” by Lamont Landers
Jayson’s DJ pick of the week is “Lonely Girl” by Lamont Lander’s! Growing up in Decatur, Alabama Lander’s began singing from a young age, gaining popularity through viral internet covers, and eventually appearing on America’s Got Talent. His new single “Lonely Girl,” co-written by Chris Stapleton and Jesse Frasure, is to a girl, and saying how he’ll never let her down. Lyrics like”when you need me, I’m always gonna be around,” state his commitment to her no matter when.

Dan’s Pick: “Better Man” by Rayland Baxter
Dan’s DJ pick of the week is “Better Man” by Rayland Baxter! Local to Nashville, he is the son of the late Bucky Baxter, an iconic steel and slide guitar player in Bob Dylan’s touring backing band in the 90s. Throughout his career, Baxter has toured with artists such as Jason Isbell and Lauryn Hill. His new single, “Better Man,” is about getting through tough times in life, and coming out of it stronger. He sings, “pulled me down again, but I made it back and now I’m a better man.”

Stephanie’s Pick: “I-40” by Hudson Freeman
Stephanie’s DJ pick of the week is “I-40” by Hudson Freeman. Born to Evangelical missionaries, he spend some of his youth in Dallas, before moving to South Africa. This is where he started writing music, and would eventually return to the U.S., where he started releasing music in 2015. His new single “I-40” uses the famous interstate as a metaphor for a tumultuous psychological and physical journey. “Oklahoma makes me dizzy, and the windmills resent me I can tell” allude to this feeling of struggling through a journey.

Casey’s Pick: “Best Days” by Wolf Twin
Casey’s DJ pick of the week: “Best Days” by Wolf Twin, a musical project started in 2022 by Nashville singer and songwriter Heather Gillis. She originally achieved recognition fronting her own jam band, Heather Gillis Band. Their new single, “Best Days,” is a rock and blues, and is very disco-y. The song is about the struggles of everyday life, and escaping from other’s expectations. Lyrics like, “finding the high, hiding the light, day by day just getting by,” and “won’t you please stop chasing me, ‘cuz I’ll always be what you want to see” highlight the struggle between of escaping reality and maintaining and image for others.
