The artistic vision of Samuel Ervin Beam, Iron & Wine has been a beloved yet understated creative force in the American indie folk scene for well over a decade. This new single introduces listeners to Beam’s first full studio album since “Years To Burn,” a 2019 collaboration with the band Calexico. The upcoming record, titled “Light Verse,” will present Beam’s re-emergence of artistry after a self-described dark period of uncertainty and writer’s block during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Featuring an intriguing collection of unconventional musical and lyrical elements, “You Never Know” marks another soothing yet thought-provoking part of Iron & Wine’s ongoing catalog. Beam sings softly about finding peace in love’s unpredictable nature over winding and passionate falsetto melodies that shape the song’s hopeful mood.
