Steph’s DJ pick of the week is “Besties” by Black Country, New Road!

Black Country, New Road is an English rock band, originally formed after the groups time at Cambridge in 2018. After parting with their original vocalist in 2022, the band has been embracing a new chapter. Black Country, New Road will be releasing their third album, Forever Howlong, April 4th. This will be their first release without their original vocalist, Issac Wood, and a notable turning point for the group.

“Besties” is the first single off Forever Howlong and the first release with Georgia Ellery as the lead vocalist. It has a experimental sound that pulls you along. You’re never quite sure where it’s going. It follows the story of experiencing deeper feelings for a platonic friend, and begs the question, ia admitting those feelings is worth it? It exists in a balance, where we fear the risks but still yearn for the answers, and questions if the benefits of confessing is worth the risk of jeopardising the relationship. This upbeat, melodic tune is a glimpse into what this new era for Black Country, New Road has to offer. Based on this new single, it is evident that this new album is shaping up to be something special!
