The New Tropics’ latest single comes to the realization that sometimes things aren’t meant to be.

One of Nashville’s most exciting and emerging indie rock talents is back with their newest single, “Almost.” The New Tropics continue to lay the ground for the rollout of their debut EP, titled “Past Tense Love Songs”, releasing July 29th. Formed in 2016, band members Caitlyn Fisler, Scot Wilson, and Tim Pombo have been hot and running since 2023 with releases such as “Wildflower” and “Missed Calls.”

The New Tropics’ discography is a deep dive into the complexities of love and relationships, those with oneself and with others. “Almost” is no different, as the song serves as a reflection on losing yourself in an attempt to make something work. It wrestles with the idea of holding onto a dying relationship with someone, and the dilemma of “what if?” What if I continue to love this person? What if I continue to nurture this relationship? Maybe then things will work out. Yet, most of the time, it leaves one depleted and confused, losing oneself in the chase after something destined to fail. “Almost” asks the question, how much of myself do I have to abandon to make this work? If you have ever related to this experience, The New Tropics invites you to join them and scream your heart out over the frustration and confusion.

Constructed from a simple voice memo by front-woman Caitlyn Fisler, the band fuses the sounds of early 2000’s indie rock, lush vocals, and a deep message to deliver a song that is introspective yet colorful. The vocal performance sounds as if it comes from a genuine sense of pain and confusion as Fisler continues to question her dilemma and succumb to the spiral that comes with it. Scot Wilson and Tim Pombo back up her vocals through a heavy-hitting and powerful guitar and rhythm performance that almost dips into grunge territory. You can tell that this band is fed up with the confusion of trying to make things work, using “Almost” as the vessel to yell and scream their frustrations.

To celebrate the band’s upcoming EP, The New Tropics will be hosting a release show, August 9th, at Tempo.
