Lightning 100 is excited to announce Zac Farro as our Frothy Monkey Local Artist of the Week with his song “My My”!

After years behind the drum kit with Paramore, the Nashville-based artist steps boldly into the spotlight with “My My.” The shimmering indie-pop single is the lead track from his upcoming solo debut Operator, out July 18. The album will have nine tracks, all of which were written by Farro. His friends, Josh Gilligan and Chancey Pierce, will also be joining him on the record. It has a 70s-pop vibe with a modern indie twist. Fans will appreciate the track’s departure from the usual pop-rock style of Halfnoise and Paramore. Reflecting that change, Operator was recorded in Farro’s home in Nashville, where he embraced a more vulnerable and experimental sound.

“My My” is a personal song about watching a loved one try to let go of someone they care deeply about—a type of silent anguish. This song carries significant weight and depicts the periods of introspection and processing that occur throughout the album. “My My” leans into a laid-back mix of country-folk and yacht rock. The track has silky synths, jangly guitar textures, and touches of twangy pedal steel. The production has a sun-soaked and vintage feel, with soft reverb and analog warmth lending it a nostalgic edge. Farro’s vocals are smooth and vulnerable, matching the song’s introspective tone. With its dreamy melodies and emotional undercurrent, “My My” sets the tone for the album. It is not only sonically adventurous but deeply human.
