On this week’s Community Corner, Brother Love sits down with Kara Kemp from ECCHO Live. This organization is a non-profit that focuses on helping people in the music industry establish careers, plan for retirement, find insurance, and find mental health resources. In fact, ECCHO stands for Education, Community, Connection, Health and Opportunity. These are the pillars that ECCHO operates on. Further, Chris Lyle, one of the founders of the organization, defined the company’s mission, saying “live music can be an unpredictable and lonely industry to navigate, our mission is to establish the resources and community that makes this a sustainable and fulfilling career path.”
One of the most important aspects of ECCHO is its mental health resources it offers to people working in the music industry. Many people are 10-99 workers, which complicates one’s ability to receive insurance and balance financials. ECCHO is here to help, and offers on-site mental health counseling to traveling musicians at festivals. In fact, Brother Love has even received mental health treatment from ECCHO and credits the company with helping him immensely.
