Songs we want to hear play as we gobble turkey.

Some people are skeptical about this overall intern pick topic… but hear me out. What song do you want to hear while you sit around the table, laughing with family and eating delicious food? Here are what the interns thought about this question:

Grace’s pick: Hozier “Jackie and Wilson”

Thanksgiving is such a joyous and happy time to give thanks and gobble some turkey. There is no better time to listen to Hozier than in front of a mega-stuffed bird. The rocking beat, the chatter of family, the smell of cranberries and pumpkin pie… perfection. Hozier’s voice is smooth like the butter that is slathered on mashed potatoes. “Jackie and Wilson” is the musical equivalent of a second helping… comforting, satisfying, and impossible to resist. The song is bright and soulful and a must listen to. I believe this is the perfect song to hear around the big table. Don’t believe me? Make sure you play it on turkey day! Listen below.

Zerita’s Pick: The Band “I Shall Be Released” (From The Last Waltz)

A Thanksgiving feast is triumphant. In my family we don’t eat anything that day until the “dinner” which comes around 3pm, and to break that fast feels like a symbolic breaking of chains. The Band’s “I Shall Be Released” feels like the perfect ecstatic celebration of eating the great feast of Turkey Day. As I fill half of my plate with mashed potatoes and make myself sick with third and fourth plates, I am assured that I really shall be released. Plus, The Band is a band that everyone in my family can agree on liking, and that’s enough to make it worthy of this Thanksgiving themed pick.

Michelle’s Pick: The Cranberries “Linger”

This might be a controversial take, but I genuinely like canned cranberry sauce, and yes, my family always has it on the Thanksgiving table. So, in the spirit of food traditions and holiday rituals, I decided to lean into the theme and go with The Cranberries.“Linger” is kind of a perfect pairing. It’s soft, bittersweet, and haunting in the way that certain memories feel when you revisit them over a plate of leftovers. Dolores O’Riordan’s voice floats like steam off mashed potatoes. The song captures that post-dinner haze, when the house is quiet except for the clink of dishes and the hum of reflection. Listen down below!
