In honor of the Knicks winning the finals, the interns have chosen the hype songs that get them game-ready.

Ella’s Intern Pick: “Trash Tongue Talker,” by Jack White

Ella’s Intern Pick of the week is “Trash Tongue Talker,” by Jack White, off his first solo album, Blunderbuss. Originally from Detroit, Jack White has made his presence known in the Nashville music scene. After the White Stripes, he debuted Blunderbuss with great success, and went on to work with other bands such as The Dead Weather and The Raconteurs. As a result, Blunderbuss is a deeply personal, genre-blending album for White. The album relies on his signature guitar fuzz, as well as folk, blues, and ’50s rockabilly elements. I chose “Trash Tongue Talker” in honor of hype week because it is a biting, aggressive blues-rock track. In turn, it delivers raw emotion, rapid-fire lyrics, and heavy distorted guitar.

Josh’s Intern Pick: “Sabertooth Tiger,” by Cage the Elephant

Josh’s intern pick of the week is “Sabertooth Tiger” by Cage The Elephant. Released on January 10, 2011, this is their tenth song on their second album, Thank You Happy Birthday. The heavy, aggressive guitars give the song a “hype” feeling and are perfect for screaming along to. The song also has such a drive that it feels like it has no brakes. Its fast pace and chaotic energy keep the excitement going from beginning to end. Whether you’re driving, working out, or just need an energy boost, “Sabertooth Tiger” is the perfect song to turn up loud.

Gracie’s Intern Pick: “Sundress,” by A$AP Rocky

Gracie’s intern pick of the week is “Sundress” by A$AP Rocky. Released in 2018, the song shows a more laid-back and psychedelic side of Rocky’s sound while still keeping his signature confidence and style. A$AP Rocky, originally from Harlem, New York, is known for blending rap, fashion, and experimental production into music that feels both cool and unexpected. “Sundress” samples Tame Impala’s “Why Won’t You Make Up Your Mind?” which gives the track its dreamy, hypnotic feel. I chose “Sundress” for hype week because it is not the typical aggressive hype song, but it still instantly puts you in a good mood. The beat is smooth, catchy, and easy to move to, making it the perfect song to play when you want to feel confident, energized, and ready to go.
