Joy Oladokun

Joy Oladokun is Lightning 100’s local artist of the week! Oladokun began her career in Los Angeles, but has since relocated to Nashville. In addition to being a singer-songwriter, she is a versatile instrumentalist and capable sound engineer. Oladokun has released two studio albums and a multitude of singles, including her newest release, “Keeping the Light On”. Her style blurs the lines between pop, folk, and R&B, with elements of each incorporated into her work.

“Keeping the Light On” is about Oladokun’s struggle to find her purpose in life. In the lyrics, she reminisces about her childhood, as well as her life in LA, a common trend among folk tunes. By contrast, Oladokun’s delivery of these lyrics is light and effortless, leaning more towards pop music. The song’s instrumental composition reflects this, featuring bright percussion, catchy synthesizers, and a classic bass line. Oladokun includes both electric and acoustic guitars in the song, which are used interchangeably to vary the song’s texture. Overall, “Keeping the Light On” is a brilliant song that fans of both pop and folk music can enjoy!

“Keeping the Light On” is Oladokun’s first musical release in 2022. While Oladokun hasn’t announced any new music yet, we can hope to hear more from her soon! She will be on tour this spring, with two performances right here in Nashville. Be sure to keep up to date with Joy Oladokun through her FacebookInstagram, and website.
