Katie Pruitt "Worst Case Scenario"

Lightning 100 announces Katie Pruitt as our Frothy Monkey Local Artist of the Week! Their newest single “Worst Case Scenario” finds a way to make honesty and vulnerability incredibly catchy.

Pruitt has been taking center stage since they were a kid, often performing in local plays or numerous open mic nights. The spotlight seemed to follow them everywhere, eventually leading them to start a band at Nashville’s very own Belmont University. A very decorated artist, Pruitt received the BMI Nashville Songwriting Scholarship while in college, later going on to be awarded the Buddy Holly Prize from the Songwriters Hall of Fame and a nomination from the Emerging Americana Music Honors & Awards.

While Pruitt’s music and career carry much acclaim, the Americana artist’s music comes from a very humble place. “Worst Case Scenario” dives deeply into self-sabotage and over-thinking, giving a look inside of their struggle with anxiety and control. Lines like “Life is one long dragged-out death sentence/And my brain, it always goes to the worst-case scenarios” give insight into how challenging living with constant anxiety can be. However, the singer is very aware of their patterns, questioning the legitimacy of their own anxious thoughts. Challenging their own perspective, they sing “Why am I putting my pain on a pedestal?/Don’t want to live for the worst-case scenario,” showing a helpful strategy of questioning the negative thoughts and trying to shift them to something more positive. Pruitt’s openness about their mental health is an important perspective and source of strength for those on their own mental health journeys.
