Phangs is our next Frothy Monkey Local Artist of the Week! His song “My Parents Love You” is a single from his upcoming album I Love Everything You Hate About Yourself.
Phangs is the solo venture of Nashville-based musician Jake Germany. Prior to his solo career, Germany was a member of Cardboard Kids and appeared on Reliant K’s 2016 album Air for Free. In the same year, Germany debuted Phangs with the release of his song “Cul de Sac.” Since then, he has released two albums and is on the way with a third.
The 80’s and 90’s influence is apparent throughout Phangs’ repertoire, but even more apparent is the influence of Germany’s Warped Tour experiences on his new song. “My Parents Love You” is a spot-on personal adaptation of the late 90’s and early 00’s pop-rock scene. While 2022 has been an instrumental year in the resurgence of that distinct pop-rock sound, this song, by far, hits closest to home.
“I wrote this song with Corey Mouch from 90’S KIDS and sent him a text with just the title line on January 24th and we wrote the whole thing the next day!” says Phangs. “I love this song and I hope you do too!”
Be sure to catch Phangs this Friday at Skydeck! Also, catch his album release show on July 15 at Exit/Inn! In the meantime, watch the music video for “My Parents Love You” below!
