Our Frothy Monkey‘s local artist of the week is Boy Orbison with his new song “Bon Voyage”!
Nashville native, Boy Orbison, has recently put out an EP comprised of 5 previously released songs presented in a different light. The EP “Dad Rock for Lovers” takes on the form of “Sad Rock for Lovers” It’s a sort of remix tape that strips down the previously heavy hitter rock songs into a more chill, stripped-back arrangement. On the surface it may seem like an odd move, but it only takes one listen to understand the vision. The songs work perfectly in their new forms and convey a far more melancholic tone than their predecessors.
“Bon Voyage” from “Sad Rock for Lovers” explores the the idea of leaving everything behind on a whim for a life care free. These care free indulgences include buying a boat, getting stoned, learning french, and even writing bathroom poetry. These lyrics layered on top of tremolo and reverb-soaked guitars feels more like a confessional dream than it’s hard rock than the original version. But hey, whose to say what the real version is? Boy Orbison masters the art of holding multiple genres and his arsenal and it won’t be long before that bravery and experimentation pay off.
Come catch Boy Orbison this Sunday for Nashville Sunday Nights at 3rd and Lindsley as he plays alongside French Cassettes and Cam Cool! And check out the official audio for “Bon Voyage” below!
