Today’s DJ Pick of the Week goes to Robert Finley for his latest single “Souled Out On You”. This is the first track on Finley’s next album Sharecropper’s Son. The album produced by Auerbach is set to release this coming May.
The Louisiana native says that this single is “the story of a relationship that’s ending. It’s about someone who takes on everything in the relationship. All the good and the bad and even after all of that, they notice that it just isn’t going to work out and the relationship has run its course. I took all I could take and I’m starting my life over.”
“Souled Out On You” is a powerful ballad that highlights Finley’s frayed vocals. The song begins with a light piano then transforms into a blues masterpiece. You can hear the exhaustion in the lyrics and the passion in the vocals throughout the song. ‘There ain’t nothin’ I can say / That’s gonna save us today,’ Finley sings.
