Jay’s DJ Pick: “Lasagna” by Babehoven

Jay’s DJ Pick of the week is “Lasagna” by Babehoven. They are an American Indie rock duo based in Hudson, New York. This duo is led by vocalist Maya Bon, originally from Portland, Oregon, and Los Angeles. Originally formed as a college project, they are now an emotionally raw yet comforting fusion of indie-folk, rock, and atmospheric elements.They drive their sound through dynamic sonic textures, Bon’s distinctive vocals, a sharp contrast between softness and intensity, and fragmented, blunt lyricism. “Lasagna” is their first single off their upcoming album, I see them, I see me. The song is a contemporary soft rock and indie-folk gem. Live-tracked instrumentals and emotionally raw lyrics drive the track, blending comforting acoustic guitar with room-filling warmth.

Dan’s DJ Pick: “Light the Way” by Leon Bridges

Dan’s DJ Pick of the week is “Light the Way” by Leon Bridges. Also known as Todd Michael “Leon” Bridges. He is a Grammy-winning American singer, songwriter, and record producer. He blends genres such as R&B and soul. His debut album, Coming Home, revived 1960’s soul and had record success. Since he has toured globally, performed at the White House, and is now on his 5th studio album. Bridges’ sound is smooth in a way that doesn’t demand your attention but still grabs hold of your senses. The upcoming album, Happiness Anytime, pairs his artistry with production from Jungle’s J Lloyd-Watson and Lydia Kitto. Bridges describes this album as not something you chase, but something that lingers. It is his perception of joy. His role is to be the light and to spread joy, and he successfully does that with “Light the Way.”

Steph’s DJ Pick: “Home Depot” by Medium Build

Stephanie’s DJ Pick is “Home Depot” by Medium Build. Nicholas Carpenter of Medium Build grew up in Georgia and played music in the church. At age 21, he moved from Atlanta to Nashville to pursue songwriting at Middle Tennessee State. In 2016, he moved to Alaska and began performing as Medium Build. Their sound is a genre-fluid blend of soulful Americana and indie-folk. Honest, conversational storytelling drives the narrative. The 90’s pop country-infused indie track, “Home Depot,” dissects men who choose physical labor over emotional vulnerability. The single, from his album King of Having Fun, infuses narrative empathy with a sharp sonic twang.

Casey’s DJ Pick: “mean!” by Macy Todd

Casey’s DJ Pick is “mean!” by Macy Todd. Originally, from Georgia, singer-songwriter Macy Todd explores the past decade of her life. Now, a Nashville-based country pop artist, she is quietly becoming one of the most exciting new voices for the genre. Her new EP pretty ruthless leans into emotional intensity and feminine defiance that defines her sound. Todd’s voice has an ability to captivate with a raw tone. Her ability to infuse her spirit into the music makes it feel alive, and as a result, reminds you to be alive too. “mean!” is a high energy alt pop song infused with an Americana infused anthem. Todd speaks on unlearning the instinct to shrink yourself, and embracing setting boundaries. Lyrically, and Musically the track balances vulnerability with confidence. The objective is to prove that someone can be gentle and firm at the same time.
