Today’s DJ Pick of the Week goes to acclaimed singer/songwriter Todd Snider for his single “Turn Me Loose (I’ll Never Be The Same)”. This song is a tribute to his musical hero Jerry Jeff Walker, who passed away last October. Throughout the song, Todd explains the story of a a phone call with Walker, discussing the meaning of the world.
Todd learned of the phrase, “turn me loose, I’ll never be the same”, after hearing Walker use it on his 1977 live album. The phrase really resonated with Todd, and he took it on as a type of mantra for his life. “As soon as I heard it, I knew the same was true of myself,” Todd explains. “I am still totally certain of it. For better or worse, bragging or complaining, it is what it is.”
“Turn Me Loose (I’ll Never Be The Same)” will be on Todd’s forthcoming album, First Agnostic Church of Hope and Wonder. The album will release in a few weeks and fans could not be more ecstatic. Check out the single below!
