This week Turnip Green Creative Reuse has caught Lightning 100’s attention! This local non-profit has found quite a creative solution for landfill waste that accrues right here in Nashville. Through initiatives such as their recycled art gallery, the reuse workshops, and the pay-what-you-wish-shop. TGCR has been working tirelessly to make Nashville a greener, cleaner space!
Turnip Green Creative Reuse 2020 Impact:
- 168,919 Pounds diverted from the landfill.
- 292 Artists featured in the Green Art Galleries
- 769 Volunteers across all areas of service.
Through education, retail, their two green galleries, and an open studio, TGCR connects donated and rescued recyclable materials with local teachers, students, and artists who need them. A concept inspired by research and passion, TGCR was founded in 2010 based on a business model out of Durham NC, The Scrap Exchange.
There are so many different ways that you can get involved with this local non-profit. Don’t feel like leaving home, but then guilty at that very thought? TGCR is always looking for at-home volunteers, you can pick up kits from TGCR’s location and then roll, detangle, unwrap, organize the materials all in the safety of your own home! For those individuals who might prefer a more hands-on experience, you can always assist with a Reuse Center shift. Or get ahead on some spring cleaning and donate materials!
Unsure of your knowledge about landfill waste? TGCR is always hosting workshops and tutorials through their live Facebook and Youtube channel! It’s always easier to find the motivation to support when you’re more educated about a cause!
