This week we are joined by Caina Lynch and Darian Stewart of A Step Ahead, a family planning non-profit based in Middle Tennessee. A Step Ahead works to provide women in Middle Tennessee access to free reversible long term contraception and educate them on their options surrounding their body and reproductive health.
A Step Ahead offers various educational programs directed towards adults and teens, to provide information on how to prevent unplanned pregnancy safely, effectively, and for free! They partner with clinics, social workers, schools, and community centers to promote awareness and provide access to long-acting reversible contraception (LARC).
For women interested in receiving a LARC implant, all they have to do is call A Step Ahead’s phone number to receive help in booking their appointment or receiving more information about what the implant can do for them. Through A Step Ahead women can schedule their appointment, get a free ride to and from their appointment, receive a free well woman exam, pregnancy test, STI test, and pap test, have their LARC inserted/implanted, all for free!
To qualify for these services you must live or go to school in one of the following Middle Tennessee counties:Â
Bedford, Cannon, Cheatham, Davidson, DeKalb, Dickson, Giles, Hickman, Houston, Humphreys, Lawrence, Lewis, Lincoln, Macon, Marshall, Maury, Montgomery, Moore, Perry, Putnam, Robertson, Rutherford, Smith, Stewart, Sumner, Trousdale, Wayne, Williamson, and Wilson.
Listen to the episode to hear what Lynch, Stewart, and the team at A Step Ahead have to offer women of Middle Tennessee, to help them prevent unplanned pregnancy. Currently, they are looking for peer educator volunteers, that can help connect students to the resources they need and make their peers aware of their options. They are also taking donations via their website to help keep their services free.
Follow them on socials at @astepaheadmiddletn, volunteer, donate, and learn more about them at their website.
