This week on Community Corner Brother Love speaks to Kim Hannah the founder and executive director of Exotic Avian Sanctuary of Tennessee and Connor Schenk, the founder of Squawk Rock. EAST, or Exotic Avian Sanctuary of Tennessee, is a 501c3 non profit that
takes in parrots from families that can no longer care for them. They have both indoor and outdoor sanctuaries, giving the birds the most natural environment they can, allowing flight and togetherness off a flock. EAST also works to rehome their rescued birds and educate people about how to properly care for their companions that can live for up to 60 years and have the cognition levels of a 4-5 year old. They have around 130 birds in their care and rely on volunteers like Connor to keep their facilities clean and functional.

Next you’ll hear from Connor on how he came up with Squawk Rock, a parrot themed festival in its 4th year, to help benefit the birds at Exotic Avian Sanctuary of Tennessee. This year, Squawk Rock is at The East Room on Saturday, August 22nd, with 10 local bands playing from 7:30pm-11:30pm. Hosted by Schenk, featuring Hywater, Barie, Snorkeler, The San Pedro, Meg and the Boys, Rainn, Rocking Horse, Zach Whitley Band, and Moonlight Drowns with bird themed songs and covers.
