The Dreaded Laramie – “Where Do The Hardcore Kids Go?”: DJ Pick of the Week

“Where Do The Hardcore Kids Go?” by The Dreaded Laramie is Casey’s DJ pick of the week! The Dreaded Laramie is a power-pop and femcore band formed in 2016. Split between Nashville, TN and Lexington, KY, the band consists of vocalist and guitarist MC Cunningham, guitarist Zach Anderson, bassist Drew Swisher, and drummer Andrew Mankin.

“Where Do The Hardcore Kids Go?” is an anthem for those whose lives are or have ever been tinged with the spirit of youthful angst. The sound of this song is unique, melding bubbly, yet powerful vocals with crunchy guitar. Together, they create a sound reminiscent of artists like Charly Bliss and Frankie Cosmos. The lyrics follow in this structure, meshing mundane descriptions of life with comically creative quips. The band even describes this song as “a tribute to three things that are crucial to our band’s existence: the DIY-band ethic, indulgent guitar music, and jokes.”  Despite its slightly sardonic qualities, the song offers an introspective take that many people can find themselves relating to. The Dreaded Laramie’s unique sound, coupled with their creative approach to songwriting is one of the many things that sets them apart from your everyday indie rock band.

“Where Do The Hardcore Kids Go?” is the closing track on The Dreaded Laramie’s new sophomore EP Everything A Girl Could Ask For. The EP is available for listen on all streaming platforms. Alongside the digital version, physical 7” picture disc vinyl is available for purchase at upcoming shows and online. In addition, the band is playing two EP release shows—one in Nashville and one in Lexington. Check out the information on The Dreaded Laramie’s Nashville EP release show here.
