Keith’s DJ pick this week is Devon Gilfillian’s “All I Really Wanna Do”. This track emerged earlier this month as a single off Gilfillian’s upcoming album, Love You Anyway, out April 7th.

Nashville-based artist Devon Gilfillian originally grew up in Philadelphia finding inspiration in vintage Motown, hip-hop, and soul music. Artists like Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Wu-Tang Clan, and Jay-Z shaped his music style and influence as a young singer-songwriter. After learning to play guitar and writing his own music at fourteen, Gilfillian eventually moved to Nashville after graduating college. The singer quickly earned a reputation around Music City for his exceptional stage presence and brilliant songwriting. His self-titled EP released in 2016 earned him a deal with Capitol Records along with tour opportunities for Keith Urban, The Fray, and Mavis Staples. By 2019, he was a headlining a tour in Scandanavia, opening for Brothers Osborne. Since then, his debut album was nominated for a Grammy and performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

“All I Really Wanna Do” is a groovy fusion of R&B and soul with the super catchy hook, “All I really wanna do, is take a little trip with you”. Gilfillian discusses the message of the song, saying “It’s about taking a chance on love, on life, and exploring yourself… I want the audience to be reminded of the beauty and joy we have around us, as long as we’re looking and open to receive.” The singer-songwriter’s smooth vocals, astral synths and sonically kaleidoscopic production transforms this track into a dreamlike experience.
