Jayson’s DJ pick of the week is “No Problems” by Ginger Root!
This is the first single this year from multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter Cameron Lew.
Ginger Root began with the release of 2017’s Spotlight People, quickly followed by Toaster_Music that same year. Ever since then, Lew has been crafting groovy and irresistible low volume funk jams he coins as “Aggressive Elevator Soul”. Lew has released six full length projects under the Ginger Root name, including the previously mentioned 2017 pair of albums, along with 2018’s Mahjong Room, 2020’s Rikki, 2021’s City Slicker EP, and 2022’s Nisemono. Ginger Root previously found success when the track “Loretta” was added to many Spotify editorial playlists in 2021 and 2022.
“No Problems” is the first single from Ginger Root’s upcoming album “SHINBANGUMI” coming September 13, 2024.
The track is a delightfully bouncy drive through Lew’s fictitious Juban district. The electric keyboards and tambourine lead the listener into a swirling introduction that feels like driving out of a tunnel to see a bustling city skyline ahead. Each hook is catchier than the last, making for an earworm you’ll want to play again and again.
The accompanying music video is bursting with creativity, DIY resourcefulness mixed with a high production value, and a sleek 80’s/90’s aesthetic that hooks viewers with Ginger Root’s authentic artistry.
