Lightning 100 is excited to announce Venus & The Flytraps as our Frothy Monkey Local Artist of the Week with their single “Frankenstein”!
Venus & The Flytraps is local duo Ceci Tomé and Brenna Kassis. The duo released their first single in 2022 and have been putting out indie pop rock anthems ever since. They’ve already hit many impressive career milestones like opening for indie acts Sun Room and Samia, headlining the iconic Blue Room, performing at Bonnaroo, and touring with Metric. There’s no doubt they’ve made quite a splash in the indie music scene in the short time they’ve been around. Venus & The Flytraps have charmed audiences with their signature sweet grunge sound and already amassed a large following.
Tomé and Kassis wrote “Frankenstein” back in 2020 during the start of the pandemic. Now, four years later, the duo revived and released the song for all to hear. It’s a testament to how far they have come as artists and a love note to the duo’s early stages. Kassis’s soft and melodic vocals combine with moody guitar to make this tune enticing and dynamic. It’s all about messy power dynamics and reclaiming that power from people who want to put you down.
They recently announced that their upcoming single “The Rest of My Life” will be released on July 31st. On Instagram they called this new single, “Frankenstein’s sister”.
