The Foxies – Timothée Chalamet: Local Artist of the Week

This week’s local artist spotlight goes out to indie pop-rock outfit The Foxies and their newest single “Timothée Chalamet.” You might recognize that name—we premiered the track last week on The 615, after all. But whether this is your first or hundredth listen to the track, we can guarantee you’ll find something to love.

The band, a “modern power trio” as they put it, cites everything from punk to disco to Blondie as influences. Led by frontwoman and founder Julia Lauren Bullock, the group prides themselves on their “feral brand of rock.”

“I think rock’s just been sleeping for a bit, and it’s about time to wake the bear,” Bullock says on the band’s website. And there’s no doubt that The Foxies are willing to sound the alarm. With three candy-colored EPs already under their belt and no signs of stopping, they definitely seem up to the task.

The world, too, is beginning to take notice, between single “Wander In Lust”’s inclusion on NOW That’s What I Call Music, Vol. 63 and a series of prestigious festival appearances. Just listening to their music, you can feel how electric their live performances must be. Even in these concert-starved times, The Foxies’ trademark adrenaline-fueled sound transports you right to the nearest festival pit.

As for “Chalamet” specifically? Well, that’s a bit of a long story. The track, Bullock revealed on TikTok, was an outtake from the band’s 2020 EP Growing Up Is Dead. But even though it got left on the cutting room floor, the band had a soft spot for it—even if their management didn’t. Based on Bullock’s apparent past date with the Little Women actor, the track feels like a pure sugar rush. Even if the story behind the song isn’t the most relatable, the lyrics certainly are, describing daydreaming over someone… and being reminded of our favorite heartthrob. Check out the TikTok revealing the history of the song below, then give the song a listen for yourself!
