Indie pop up-and-comer Dayglow released “Medicine” in May as a part of his debut album Harmony House. The song epitomizes everything audiences love from frontman Sloan Struble: bubbly, happy pop with retro overtones. Its bouncy beat and infectious chorus will cure the worst case of Monday blues. “Medicine” is Jayson’s DJ Pick of the week!

The Texas-based musician first appeared on the pop scene in 2019. His EP, Fuzzybrain, which he wrote, produced, recorded and mixed himself in his bedroom, made him a household name among indie pop enthusiasts. The EP’s lead single, “Can I Call You Tonight,” found viral success on TikTok. Ever since then, he’s been a staple on teen playlists. Just like Fuzzybrain, Harmony Hall was a product of a bedroom studio.

In a video on his Youtube channel about how he made the song, Struble said that “Medicine was actually one of the first songs I wrote on Harmony House. I was listening to a lot of Doobie Brothers. It’s a lot of the whole funk meets yacht rock meets pop genre,” he said, adding on that the keys were inspired by “What A Fool Believes.”

The music video for the song echoes the ‘70s vibe as Struble sings in front of a mannequin-like band. His suit is straight out of The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, and a cardboard camera floats in and out of frame, eventually panning to a non-existent audience. Check it out below!
