“Hawk for the Dove” by Amanda Shires is Casey’s DJ Pick of the Week! This is the first single released for Amanda’s upcoming album Take It Like a Man, which is being released July 29! The album the Americana artist’s first solo project since 2018! Amanda spent the interim period performing in a band called the Highwomen with Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, and Natalie Hemby.
The upcoming tracks will feature vocals from artists like Lawrence Rothman and Amanda’s band-mate Brandi Carlile. Rothman is the producer and co-writer of “Hawk for the Dove,” and they also play keyboard for the song! The keys are accompanied by guitar and drum melodies that combine to make a heavy rock piece. In a statement from Stereogum, Amanda says, “The song and the visual representation of the song deal with the emotions that turn prey into predator.”
