Rev. Keith’s DJ Pick of the Week is “Spit of You” by Sam Fender! Sam Fender is an alt-rock singer/songwriter from North Shields, England. Fender got his start singing at the local pub that he was employed at. Within a few years, he eventually found himself opening for acts such as Declan McKenna, getting signed to Polydor Records, and releasing his first EP in 2018.
“Spit of You” is the sixth track off Fender’s latest album, 2021’s Seventeen Going Under. In a press release, Fender says “it’s about growing up, the trials and tribulations that come with it, and the self-esteem issues that we carry through to adulthood. But primarily, it’s about hope. The hope that we have it in us to rise above adversity, and the strength to help carry those who sink.” This track is a heartfelt admittance of a struggling relationship between a father and son. It reflects on the idea that maybe there are parts of our parents that may be ingrained in us–good and bad.
