Stephanie’s DJ pick of the week is “Geometry” by Rubblebucket. The song was released as one of four singles from their latest album, Earth Worship. Rubblebucket is a Brooklyn-based duo led by Kalmia Traver and Alex Toth. The two met in college at the University of Vermont and have since released five full-length albums. The band has a have a fun, energetic sound with an emphasis on the indie dance, funk, and soul genres. At the same time, the group never limits themselves creatively or experimentally.
“Geometry” begins with an intriguing string arrangement and eventually transitions into a steady pop beat with backing vocals. The song is inviting, providing sonic serotonin. The duo are both multi-instrumentalists and show off their talents with each record they produce. Earth Worship is heavy on themes of preserving the Earth through love, respect, and gratitude as the title suggests. “Geometry” serves as a piece of the overarching message of the album that outward healing begins with inward healing.
Be sure to see Rubblebucket live at The Basement East here in Nashville on March 18th!
