Jayson’s pick: Juliana Hatfield “Popsicle”

This week’s pick from Jayson is “Popsicle” by Juliana Hatfield. Juliana is one of the survivors of the great alternative rock era. She started making music in the 80’s with her band and now has a solo career. “Popsicle” is her new single, released in October, and she still stays true to her rock roots. This song features a more driving rhythm underneath the lighter vocals. Even though the song feels simple and laid-back, the instrumentation keeps it grounded in an alternative rock sound. Take a listen now!

Dan’s Pick: Whitney Fenimore “Thank God For You”

Dan’s pick this week is Whitney Fenimore’s “Thank God For You.” Whitney is a Nashville based singer-songwriter that blends Americana, folk, and indie influences in her music. Whitney was also a semi-finalist on Season 13 of The Voice! This song, “Thank God For You” is one of many fantastic songs on her new album State of Being. This song, and this album, touches on the mixed feelings of faith and her experience with battling depression. If you want to hear a more upbeat, inspirational, and feel good song, this one is for you. Check it out on YouTube!

Stephanie’s Pick: Whitney “Won’t You Speak Your Mind”

Stephanie’s pick is “Won’t You Speak Your Mind” by Whitney. Whitney is an indie rock band that brings in other genres as well, like alternative, folk, and soul. They are known for their “near flawless” music and perfectionism in their sound. That is what makes them so fun and easy to listen to. Even with the mellow tone, “Won’t You Speak Your Mind” still feels grounded through its steady groove and subtle rock influences. This song is one of many on the recent album Small Talk. Listen below!!

Casey’s Pick: Bryan Simpson “Punk Rock Show”

Casey’s pick, Bryan Simpson, is Lightning 100’s local artist of the week. Bryan is a Nashville-based songwriter known for his sharp storytelling, genre-blending style, and years of work across the Americana and bluegrass scenes. His song “Punk Rock Show” blends country, bluegrass, indie, and rock. It’s fast-paced and a little chaotic in the best way, with acoustic grit and a fun, loose vocal delivery. Even though it isn’t traditional punk, it keeps that rebellious energy and the personality Bryan brings to all his music. Give it a listen below!

Rev’s Pick: St. Paul & the Broken Bones “Fall Moon”

Rev’s pick this week is “Fall Moon” by St. Paul & the Broken Bones. The band, based in Birmingham, Alabama, is known for their powerful blend of soul, R&B, and modern indie rock, all anchored by Paul Janeway’s standout vocals. “Fall Moon” leans into their atmospheric side, with smooth grooves, warm instrumentation, and a moodier, spacey feel than some of their earlier work. It’s soulful, layered, and easy to get lost in. Give it a listen below!
