Jayson’s Pick: “Stone Fruit” by Blondshell

Jayson’s DJ pick of the week is “Stone Fruit” by Blondshell! Sabrina Teitelbaum, known musically as Bombshell, is an alternative rock artist from New York City. Making music since she was a kid, she studied songwriting at University of Southern California, before stepping away from studies for a full time music career. Blondshell’s said her songs are about “things that are difficult to talk about in everyday life,” which she does not shy away from in “Stone Fruit.” The song is fiery message to a Nadine, telling her her desire for a viscous relationship. She tells her, “I care to stick to you like a clot,” because “that’s love, baby.” Lots of people can relate to desire towards someone, yet I’ve seen no one say it as uniquely honest as this.

Stephanie’s Pick: Boy, You’ll Be a Woman Soon by Alex Izenberg

Stephanie’s DJ pick of the week is “Boy, You’ll Be a Woman Soon” by Alex Izenberg! From out of the San Fernando Valley, as a teenager, he was discovered by Linda Perry of the 4 Non Blondes at Guitar Center. Perry was so impressed by his guitar playing, she ended up producing his original band Paper Zoo’s first EP. Izenberg then went solo, releasing his first album, Harlequin, in 2016. He’s said that what sets him apart from others is lyrics about what’s happening within, and his new single “Boy You’ll Be a Woman Soon” expands on this. The songs title is flips the tile of “Girl, You’ll Be a Woman Soon” by Neil Diamond, and is about transformation, and discovering who you yourself want to be against societal norms. Izenberg sings: “boy, you’ll be a woman soon, to love and yet to be loved.”
