Lightning 100’s Local Artist of the Week, Caroline Spence, sat down in the ONErpm Studio with Adam and Jayson this morning to discuss her upcoming residency at The Basement. Adam began their discussion asking about the idea for the residency and the experience of being on the road. Spence told them the inspiration behind the residency came from the desire to play at home after a long and lonesome time out on the road.

The trio discussed the openers for all four shows, Elise Davis, Charlie Whitten, Jacob Thomas Jr, and Hailey Whitters with Spence citing her reasoning for choosing these artists as their support and inspiration for her as well as their friendship and the opportunity to simply hang out with them. She also took a moment to mention why she enjoys earlier performances; her residency shows begin at 7 pm.

Caroline Spence performed her song “Slow Dancer” and talked a bit about her inspirations, citing Bruce Springsteen as the reasoning behind the name of her EP Secret Garden made of B side songs from her record Spades and Roses, songwriting methods, relationship with “sad music,” and how she got her band name (she was born with it.) She also performed her song “Heart of Somebody” and shared her secret to a wonderful voice; an occasional warm-up and queso.
