On this week’s episode of Community Corner, Brother Love sits down with Tiffany Wondrow and Brittany Buck from the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Nashville to discuss Women in Construction Week and the experience of women across the construction industry!
Tiffany Wondrow, the immediate past president of NAWIC Nashville, and Brittany Buck, the organization’s current president, share how in the past year, the chapter has grown to nearly 190 members and has become the largest NAWIC chapter in the world. Together, they talk about their leadership transition and how women supporting women drives change in a male-dominated industry.
During the conversation, both Buck and Wondrow share their nontraditional path into construction. Buck began her role as an assistant superintendent, and her experience leading the organization while pregnant. She talks about motherhood, job site culture, and specific ways construction teams can better support women and families. Wondrow shares the story of her own entry into construction. Tiffany transitioned from the marine corps to commercial real estate to eventually growing a successful painting business.
A major focus of the episode is the upcoming Women in Construction Week Summit, taking place March 1–7. This year, the event offers a shorter, higher-impact experience. The event includes keynote speakers, a Tradeswoman of the Year Award, and honest conversations between leaders at three different levels of construction, the field, pre-construction, and the C-suite level.
The episode also mentions NAWIC Nashville’s partnership with Play Like a Girl. NAWIC supports a nonprofit focused on empowering young girls through sports and STEM education. Buck explains how sports, leadership, and construction are all deeply connected, and the importance of inspiring the next generation. This year’s theme, “Level Up, Build Strong” and Buck’s personal motto “She Will Rise,” reflects the organization’s commitment to fostering growth, confidence, and leadership.
